What is the healing art of Reflexology?
Reflexology has been used in Egypt, China and India for at least 5,000 years. It was validated in Europe in the 1900s with the work of
Dr William Fitzgerald who noted that pressure on specific parts of the body could have an anaesthetising effect on a related area. Developing this theory, he divided the body into ten equal and vertical zones, ending in the fingers and toes. He concluded that pressure on one part of a zone could affect everything else within that zone.
In the 1930's, Eunic Ingham, a therapist, further developed and refined the zone therapy into what is now known as reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrored congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the body. For instance, when the big toe was treated, there was a related effect in the head.

How does it work?
use The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of imbalance and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology is a therapy which uses hands only to apply gentle pressure to the feet in order to encourage healing and to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium.
Reflexology also has a stimulating influence on the acupuncture meridians (energy channels) of the body as many of the major meridians begin and end in the feet.
Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits or imbalances in the feet and by working on these areas the reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. This therapy ecourages the body to heal itself at its own pace.
Reflexology can benefit almost everyone (including children) as a safe, natural way of relaxing, balancing and harmonising the body.
